Ullswater - A Fascinating Place To Visit

Ullswater  is England's second largest lake and considered the most beautiful.  It was the inspiration for Wordsworth's poem 'Daffodils'.

The area is one of great beauty, which is apparent in all seasons, and has been home to and inspired many artists, historians and poets for at least tow centuries, including Wordsworth, Ruskin, Coleridge, Beatrix Potter and Sir Walter Scott.  It is also a fitting home for the Golden Eagle, Red Deer and Red Squirrel and many water birds, making walking and exploring a great pleasure.

Interests and Activities

The Lake - Two 19th Century Steamers, now converted to oil, cruise the Lake three times daily during the season.  Rowing, sailing, wind surfing, skin diving, fishing and bathing can also be pursued.

Golf, Pony Trekking, Riding, Archery, Mountain Biking, Clay Pegeon Shooting and Cycling are all available nearby.

For the more leisurely minded, Dalemain and Hutton in the Forest Historic Houses, Ceramic, Pottery, Craft and Art Galleries are within easy reach as are Bird of Prey and Alpaca Centres and Lowther Wildlife Park, Rheged 'Upland Kingdom Discovery Centre', which boasts one of the very few large scale I Max Cinema screens in the country is just five miles away.

Ullswater is less commercialised than the Southern Lakes and so provides a relaxing and tranquil place to stay, while still being an ideal centre for visiting Windermere, Ambleside, Keswick, Coniston and Grasmere.
